Seniors Help Swimming & Diving Claim Victory Over Xavier

Senior recognition day ended in triumph for the Miami University swimming and diving team, as both men's and women's squads came out on top against Xavier on Saturday, Feb. 5. Boosted by strong performances from multiple graduating seniors, the women grabbed a 178-92 victory while the men picked up their win 192.5-82.5.
 
How it Happened:
  • The RedHawks dominated the top of the podium, with Miami athletes winning 26 out of 32 events across the meet, equally split across 13 top spots for both squads.
  • Miami started the meet strongly with wins in both relay events. The women kicked it off, with the A relay team of Madeline Padavic, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, Honor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier picking up a combined time of 1:44.28 in the 200 medley relay. The men followed, with the B relay team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Nic Wamsley and Pedro Gueriros tying for the top spot with a combined time of 1:32.00 in the same event.
  • Multiple Miami swimmers won two of their individual events across the meet: Natalie Stump, 1000 freestyle (10:40.25) & 500 freestyle (5:12.06); Blazer, 100 backstroke (49.95) & 200 backstroke (1:51.89); Dulay, 100 breaststroke (57.25) & 100 butterfly (50.33); Maier, 200 butterfly (2:03.05) & 400 individual medley (4:23.64); Tommy Frye, 200 butterfly (1:51.95) & 500 freestyle (4:39.88).
  • Other RedHawks who took the top spot in individual events were: Alexandra Spaczay, 200 freestyle (1:54.01); Jack Herczeg, 200 freestyle (1:41.68); Lahrach-Sanchez, 100 breaststroke (1:03.72); Rachel Botting, 50 freestyle (24.26); Cole Grosshans, 50 freestyle (20.35); Ben Chatwin, 100 freestyle (45.69); Angelina Cakuls, 200 backstroke (2:00.89); Anna Martin, 200 breaststroke (2:19.09); McKenzie Reid, 100 butterfly (57.05); Henju Duvenhage, 400 individual medley (4:01.33).
  • The final relay event allowed Miami to close out the meet on top. The A relay team of Cakuls, Brodie-Foy, Padavic and Maier finished the 200 freestyle relay in first with a combined time of 1:35.73 for the women, while the B relay team of Wamsley, Chatwin, Grosshans & Jacob Krzciok won for the men with a combined time of 1:22.22.
  • The Miami divers, while unopposed, still posted some solid scores. Madeline Lutzko earned a score of 304.73 in the women's three meter diving event, while David Burke & Karsten Dixon earned 325.13 and 319.28 respectively in the same event for the men.
 
Up Next:
Both men's and women's squad finish up their 2021-22 home season with the last chance meet, followed by participation in the MAC Championships and the NCAA Championships, including the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
