KENT, Ohio — The Miami women's track and field team competed in the first day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Friday. Miami is ranked second after the first day of competition.
HOW IT HAPPENED:

In a day filled mostly with track prelims, Carmen Riano was Miami's biggest point-getter as she took second in the 5000-meter race. Riano finished with a time of 16:31.72 just .15 seconds behind the leader.
The RedHawks had three qualifiers in the 1-mile run. Emily Akin took the top spot for Miami finishing in sixth place with a time of 5:00.14. Lotti Roemer (4:59.36) and Jenna Sayle (5:02.22) were close behind.
On the field, Sydney Jefferson claimed six points in the weight throw, finishing in third with a throw clearing 18.52m.
The day's final event was a eight-pointer for the 'Hawks as the distance medley relay team took second. Akin, Annie Christie, Marta Cepeda Perez, and Roemer combined to run an 11:50.21 time.
