Track and Field Completes Day One at MAC Indoor Championship

KENT, Ohio — The Miami women's track and field team competed in the first day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships on Friday. Miami is ranked second after the first day of competition.

The RedHawks finish their stint at the MAC Championships Saturday, Feb. 25.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In a day filled mostly with track prelims, Carmen Riano was Miami's biggest point-getter as she took second in the 5000-meter race. Riano finished with a time of 16:31.72 just .15 seconds behind the leader.
- The RedHawks had three qualifiers in the 1-mile run. Emily Akin took the top spot for Miami finishing in sixth place with a time of 5:00.14. Lotti Roemer (4:59.36) and Jenna Sayle (5:02.22) were close behind.
- On the field, Sydney Jefferson claimed six points in the weight throw, finishing in third with a throw clearing 18.52m.
- The day's final event was a eight-pointer for the 'Hawks as the distance medley relay team took second. Akin, Annie Christie, Marta Cepeda Perez, and Roemer combined to run an 11:50.21 time.
The RedHawks finish their stint at the MAC Championships Saturday, Feb. 25.
