RedHawks Conclude Miami Invitational

The Miami University swimming and diving teams held onto their placements in the final day of competition at the Miami Invitational on Saturday, Dec. 3. A series of first-place finishes put the women's team at the top of nine teams, ending with a total score of 1276.5 points. They were followed by Grand Canyon University in second (866 points) and Ball State University in third (693.5 points). The men's team stayed their course as well, finishing second of eight teams with a total score of 881 points, landing behind GCU (1107.5 points) and ahead of BSU in third (595.5 points).
 
How It Happened:
  • In the men's 1650 freestyle, Evan Kindseth's time of 15:41.99 placed him second overall, with Yonatan Rosin right behind in third (15:46.95). Katheryn Antonowich earned a score of 17:21.75 for the women's team, placing her eighth overall.
  • Angelina Cakuls and Emily Rinker finished first and second respectively in the women's 200 backstroke, with Cakuls earning a time of 1:58.94 and Rinker earning a time of 1:59.43. Also in the top five was Madeline Padavic in fifth (2:02.44). Owen Blazer tied for sixth for the men's team with a time of 1:50.62.
  • The women's 100 freestyle had Honor Brodie-Foy taking second with a time of 50.08; also high for the RedHawks' women's team were Greta Kolbeck in fifth (50.50) and Julia Waechter in seventh (51.18). For the men's team, the highest finisher was Jack Herczeg in eighth (45.56).
  • Sara Lahrach-Sanchez finished second in the women's 200 breaststroke, claiming a time of 2:17.62. Back-to-back placements were also earned by Ashley Sego in seventh (2:20.72) and Emma Schueler in eighth (2:23.03). Adrian Dulay landed in ninth for the men's team with a time of 2:00.43.
  • Another first-place finish for the women's team was picked up by Nicole Maier in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:57.19. In the same event, Erin Szczupakiewicz took fourth (2:03.92) and Maggie Patterson took sixth (2:05.26). Henju Duvenhage also gave the men's team a win, finishing with a time of 1:44.96.
  • Swimming events closed out with the 400 freestyle relay. The Miami women's A relay team took first, with Maier, Kolbeck, Waechter and Brodie-Foy putting together a combined time of 3:19.21. The men's relay A team of Pedro Gueiros, Duvenhage, Matt Fetterman and Herczeg finished in second with a combined time of 2:59.18.
  • The women's platform dive event had a second-place finish from Sydney Rice, who earned a finals score of 240.50. Also for the women's team were Madeline Lutzko in fourth (195.55) and Mia Meinhardt in fifth (194.85). Jackson Miller also took second in the men's platform dive, earning 303.00 points. Victor Hearn was right behind in third (298.45).
