RedHawks Maintain Positions at Day Two of Miami Invitational

The Miami University swimming and diving teams continued to perform well at day two of the Miami Invitational on Friday, Dec. 2. The women's team held onto their first place ranking out of nine schools, finishing the day with 875 points and followed by Grand Canyon University in second (584 points) and Ball State University in third (464.5 points). Also keeping their previous position was the men's team, who remained in second place with 599.5 points, remaining behind GCU (762.5 points) and ahead of BSU (450 points).
 
How It Happened:
  • Finals for day two kicked off with the 200 medley relay, where the Miami A relay team of Madeline Padavic, Emma Schueler, Honor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier made a winning performance, earning a combined time of 1:39.51. The men's A relay team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Henju Duvenhage and Pedro Gueiros landed in third with a combined time of 1:28.64.
  • Brodie-Foy led the pack in the women's 100 butterfly, finishing first with a time of 54.54. Also for the women's team, McKenzie Reid came in fourth (55.76), Erin Szczupakiewicz came in sixth (56.08) and Padavic came in seventh (56.11). Duvenhage made a third-place finish for the men's team with a time of 47.35.
  • In the 400 IM, Maier took first with a time of 4:10.54, with Emily Rinker following behind her in third (4:22.75). For the men's team, Yonatan Rosin finished sixth (4:00.88) and Nick Barrows finished eighth (4:07.01).
  • Greta Kolbeck picked up the top time of 1:46.85 in the women's 200 freestyle, while Katheryn Antonowich earned third (1:51.59), Julia Waechter earned sixth (1:52.04) and Mollie Lumsden earned eighth (1:53.32). The men's competition saw Uroš Djokovic picking up second place with a time of 1:38.65.
  • The women's 100 breaststroke had a fifth-place finish from Sara Lahrach-Sanchez (1:03.73) and a seventh-place finish from Schueler (1:04.43). For the men, Dulay came in sixth (55.17) and Benjamin Eichberg came in eighth (56.28).
  • Padavic took the top position in the women's 100 backstroke with a time of 54.23, followed for the RedHawks by Angelina Cakuls in third (55.11), Jenna Halliday in sixth (56.35) and Reid in seventh (56.58). Blazer came in second for the men's team with a time of 48.83, while Robert Luebke finished sixth (50.07) and Mason Miller finished seventh (50.09).
  • Day two closed out with the 800 freestyle relay, with the women's relay A team of Maier, Antonowich, Waechter and Kolbeck took a first place finish on a combined time of 7:16.81. The men's relay A team finished fourth, with a combined time of 6:43.36 from Djokovic, Jack Herczeg, Allen Cotton and Matt Fetterman.
  • The women's 1 meter dive had a first-place finish for Sydney Rice, who earned 264.05 points. Mia Meinhardt came in sixth (237.15) and Nora Kowalski came in seventh (231.40) as well. The men's 3 meter dive had back-to-back top finishes from Miami divers, with Jackson Miller taking first (340.00) and John Dymond taking second (298.65). Also placing high for the RedHawks was Victor Hearn in fourth (279.00).

The RedHawks' swimming and diving teams conclude the Miami Invitational, and their 2022 meets, with day three of competition on Saturday, Dec. 3. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m., while finals are set for a 4 p.m. start.
