RedHawks Perform Well at Day One of Miami Invitational

The Miami University swimming and diving teams turned in solid performances across the first day of the Miami Invitational on Thursday, Dec. 1. The women's team ended day one's finals on top, scoring 395.5 points against eight other schools, while the men's team landed in second place with 266 points. Other placements on the women's side were Grand Canyon University in second (270 points) and Ball State University in third (216.5 points), while GCU took first for the men (361 points) and BSU landed in third (226 points).

How It Happened:
  • Finals for day one started with the 200 freestyle relay, where the women's A relay team of Nicole Maier, Taylor Connors, Honor Brodie-Foy and Julia Waechter claimed first with a combined time of 1:31.70. The men's A relay team picked up a second place finish and a combined time of 1:20.50 earned by Pedro Gueiros, Jack Herczeg, Matt Fetterman and Henju Duvenhage.
  •  Maier and Greta Kolbeck helped the RedHawks' women's team take an early lead, earning first and second place respectively in the 500 freestyle. Maier took a time of 4:43.44, while Kolbeck came in at 4:48.06. Katheryn Antonowich also scored well for Miami, tying for fourth (4:55.99).
  • In the men's 500 freestyle, UrošÂ Djokovic and Yonatan Rosin also finished back-to-back, with third and fourth place finishes. Djokovic took a time of 4:32.13, while Rosin had a time of 4:32.40.
  • The men's 200 IM had Duvenhage landing a dominant first place finish, coming in with a time of 1:46.09. Also scoring double digits for the men was Adrian Dulay in eighth (1:52.23). For the women's team, Emily Rinker ended in third (2:03.22), with Ashley Sego right behind in fourth (2:03.46) and Jordyn Homoki in sixth (2:04.74).
  • For the final individual event of the day, Brodie-Foy earned a second place finish in the women's 50 freestyle with a time of 23.78). Also for the women were Jenna Halliday in fifth (23.82), Waechter in sixth (23.83), Connors in seventh (23.92) and Madeline Padavic in eighth (24.05). The highest placing swimmer for the men was Gueiros, who finished eighth (20.76).
  • Closing out the first day's events was the 400 medley relay, where the women's A relay team of Padavic, Sego, Brodie-Foy and Maier took first with a combined time of 3:39.16. For the men, the relay A team of Owen Blazer, Dulay, Duvenhage and Herczeg finished second, picking up a combined time of 3:14.78.
  • Diving events for the day consisted of the women's 3 meter dive and the men's 1 meter dive. For the women, Sydney Rice easily took first with a score of 299.50, followed by Madeline Lutzko in sixth (247.35) and Vivian Niekamp in seventh (262.40). In the men's event, Jackson Miller came in second with a score of 301.90, with John Dymond finishing fifth (267.00) and Victor Hearn finishing sixth (265.95).
