EVANSTON, Ill. – On Friday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team fell to No. 2 Northwestern University 2-1 in a shootout in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, ending their season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Through a back-and-forth first quarter, the score remained unchanged 0-0.
With just over three minutes remaining in the second quarter, goalkeeper Isabelle Perese successfully defended a penalty stroke, to keep the score tied 0-0.
The first half ended with the 0-0 score still intact.
On a penalty stroke halfway through the third quarter, the Wildcats scored, taking a 1-0 lead, which they held through the end of the quarter.
During a penalty corner just over five minutes into the final quarter, Reese Wearren scored, tying up the game 1-1. She was assisted by Claudia Negrete Garcia.
The score remained tied through the end of regulation play, sending the RedHawks into overtime.
After the first overtime period the score remained tied 1-1, meaning a second overtime period would be played.
The score still remained tied through the end of a second overtime period. The RedHawks were headed into a shootout.
Northwestern converted on their first two attempts, while Miami missed on their first two opportunities.
Perese denied the next two Wildcat attempts and Madison Workman and Luli Rosso converted to even the attempts, 2-2.
After the Wildcats were successful on their final attempt, Miami was unable to convert, dropping the contest 2-1.
