ATHENS, Ohio --The men and women of Miami University's cross country team competed in the MAC Championships on Saturday morning at Ohio University. The men finished in first place overall for the first time since the 2018 season, finishing with a total of 46 points to claim the MAC Championship. They were led by
Obsaa Feda, who finished in first place overall with a time of 23:39.7.
On the women's side,
Carmen Riano took the individual title with a personal-best of 19:30.3, and the RedHawks came in fourth place as a team with a total of 126 points. Miami had not had an individual MAC champion since 2007, and this was the first time in program history Miami swept both individual titles in the same year.
How It Happened:
- For the men, Feda finished in first place by pulling away right at the end of the race. Mhalicki Bronson finished in eighth place with a time of 23:56.2. Jake Bertelsen finished 10th with a time of 23:58.8, while Max Polak was right behind him with a time of 24:05.2. The next runner for the RedHawks was Patrick Wills, who finished in 16th place with a time of 24:18.2.
- The women were led by Carmen Riano, who beat her PR by 24 seconds with a time of 19:30.3. Ava Nuttall wasn't far behind, finishing in fourth place with a time of 20:13.3. Next was Julia Rushing, who finished 16th with a time of 21:07.5. Gianna Labbiento took 53rd place with a time of 22:22.3. Jenna Sayle came in 60th with a time of 22:32.6.
2022 All-MAC Cross Country:
- For the men, Feda was named First Team All-MAC, while Bronson, Bertelsen, and Polak were all named to the second team. Wills earned the title of MAC Freshman of the Year.
- Coach Tom Chorny was also named MAC Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
- For the women, Riano and Nuttall were named First Team All-MAC.
