OXFORD, Ohio – On Thursday evening, the Miami University's women's soccer team (7-3-4, 3-1-3 Mid-American Conference) took down Western Michigan University (3-6-5, 3-2-2 MAC) by a 1-0 scoreline.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- In the 14th minute, junior Camber Hayes sent a 35-yard free kick into the box. The delivery was claimed by the Western Michigan goalkeeper.
- At the 29-minute mark, Hayes swung in another free kick, this time from the right side, for sophomore Makenna Morrison to meet it with a header. Morrison's attempt went just wide of the goal.
- Just past the 60-minute mark, junior Taylor Hamlett held up the ball before laying it off to Hayes outside of the box. Hayes then attempted a left-footed shot but it was parried.
- At the 68th minute, just by the right touchline, Hayes whipped in a free-kick towards the far post for redshirt junior Madeline Schlecht to score a towering header and give the RedHawks a 1-0 advantage.
NOTES:
- Senior Izzie Vaccari moves to second in Miami soccer history for career shutouts with 17 while collecting eight saves in today's clean sheet.
- Schlecht scored her fourth goal of the season and career.
- By contributing to the only goal in this matchup, Hayes has assisted on eight of the 17 goals that Miami has scored this season.
