Ball State Gets Best of RedHawks, 67-64

MUNCIE, Ind. – After falling behind 49-31 midway through the third quarter, the Miami University women's basketball team made it a one-possession game, falling 67-64 to the Ball State Cardinals (11-7, 4-4 MAC) on Monday night. Peyton Scott had a game-high 23 points and added five rebounds and four assists as the RedHawks drop to 6-9 overall and 2-4 in conference play.
Maddi Cluse recorded her second career double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds and Edyn Battle chipped in with 11 points.

How it Happened:
- Miami opened the contest on a 13-9 run with some hot shooting from Scott and Jada Duckett. Scott left the contest for several minutes with an apparent injury midway through the first quarter and the Cardinals responded with a 10-0 run and led 21-17 after 10 minutes of play.
- The RedHawks offense went scoreless for 5:30 straight minutes in the middle of the second quarter as Ball State opened up a 39-24 advantage at the half.
- BSU had its largest lead of the game, 49-31 with 5:01 left in the third. A pair of free throws from Scott, followed by layups from Battle and Cluse shrunk the lead to 12. The Cardinals led 51-37 at the end of the third.
- Cluse scored the first five points of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit, 51-42. Following a 4-0 BSU run, the RedHawks answered with eight straight and trailed 55-50 with 3:33 to play. A jumper from Scott made it 64-60 with 18 seconds remaining and two more free throws from Scott made it 67-64 with two seconds to go.
Game Notes:
- After committing 15 turnovers in the first half, the RedHawks had just six in the final 20 minutes of play.
- Sydney Watkins had a career-high three steals.
- Edyn Battle scored 11 points and added two rebounds in her first career start.
- Peyton Scott was a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and now has made 23 straight.
- Maddi Cluse had her second career double-double, finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
