Akron Tops Miami 66-53

OXFORD, Ohio— The Miami women's basketball team got 13 points from Peyton Scott and 11 from Ivy Wolf, but the visiting Akron Zips used a 24-6 run over the late second and early third quarters to get past the RedHawks 66-53 Wednesday at Millett Hall. Scott added a team-high seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals for Miami (4-7, 0-2 MAC), while Jordyn Dawson led Akron (6-4, 3-1 MAC) with 25 points and 10 boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter was a defensive battle, with Miami inching out to an 11-9 lead after 10 minutes of play. The RedHawks held the visitors to just three made field goals in the period.
- Akron started the second quarter on a 10-1 run to go on top, but Miami rallied to close within 23-21 on Wolf's mid-range jumper. The Zips finished the stanza on a 9-2 spurt to take a 32-23 lead into the locker room.
- Akron continued to stretch the advantage early in the third quarter, pushing out to a 47-27 lead. After three periods, the Zips led 55-37.
- The RedHawks rallied in the final frame, scoring eight consecutive points to cut the margin to 57-47. Miami got as close as 59-51 with 2:20 to play on an Edyn Battle transition layup, but Akron finished the scoring with five straight points from the foul line to earn a 66-53 win.
NOTES
- Scott moved into 22nd place on the all-time Miami scoring list, passing Leah Purvis (1,087 career points) and Maria Fantanarosa (1,086). Scott now has 1,089 points in a RedHawk uniform.
- Miami forced 20 Akron turnovers.
- The RedHawks outscored the Zips 23-12 in bench points.
