RedHawks Bested by North Carolina 7-2

Chapel Hill, NC. — The North Carolina Tarheels got on the board early in the first quarter to set the tone and the Miami University field hockey team was unable to keep up offensively in a game that UNC won 7-2 on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels improve to 4-4 and the RedHawks fall to 3-6.

Miami looks to bounce back at home on Friday, Sept. 24 at 2 p.m. against Longwood University in their second Mid-American Conference game of the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- North Carolina scored an early goal in the first quarter making it 1-0. With 2:10 left in the first quarter, Miami tied the game up at 1-1 off of a Paula Pena goal that was assisted by Claudia Negrete Garcia.
- The Tarheels quickly responded to Miami's goal off of a penalty corner making the score 2-1 after 15 minutes.
- In the second quarter, the Tar Heels added another goal with just under four minutes to go from another penalty corner putting the score at 3-1 UNC
- At halftime, North Carolina's 3-1 advantage remained as well as a 13-4 advantage shots and a 6-3 advantage in penalty corners. Isabelle Perese had seven saves at halftime for the RedHawks.
- UNC scored just over a minute into the third quarter and Miami answered right away on a goal from Morgan Sturm.
- Perese recorded nine saves combined in the second half and was stellar tallying 15 total saves but UNC was still able to add three more goals, resulting in the RedHawks 7-2 defeat
