Miami University Director of Athletics David Sayler has tabbed JD Fletcher to be its newest head coach for Miami Golf. Fletcher, a 2019 Miami graduate, comes to the RedHawks after serving the past year as head coach and Director of Golf at Earlham College.
Â
"I am incredibly thankful and honored to take over the Men's Golf Program at Miami University," said Fletcher. "I'd like to thank David Sayler and Jennie Gilbert for all of their support through this process and for the opportunity to be a part of Miami Golf again. My fiance and I are extremely excited to start a life in Oxford and be a part of a special community."Â
Â
As a student-athlete for the RedHawks, Fletcher competed in 11 events and one MAC Championship during his collegiate career, and was a Top 25 finisher at the 2017 Ohio Amateur. Fletcher also worked as a strength and conditioning intern for the RedHawks, and completed an internship with Play Golf in college. He graduated from Miami in May 2019 with a bachelor's degree in sports leadership and management.
Â
"Miami Athletics is proud to announce JD Fletcher as the new leader of our Men's Golf program," said Sayler. "As a former student-athlete in the golf program here at Miami, he knows firsthand the positive impact that being a part of this institution can have on someone. JD has a bright future in the world of Division I collegiate golf ahead of him and we are all excited to watch him begin that journey here at Miami."
Â
At Earlham, Fletcher oversaw all budgeting, fundraising, recruiting, tournament scheduling and player development for both the men's and women's programs.
Â
Prior to arriving at Earlham, Fletcher was the assistant golf coach at Carnegie Mellon University and director of player development at The Pittsburgh Field Club.
Â
In his first season at CMU, Fletcher contributed to the development of three PING All-America selections, along with four All-Region and three All-University Athletic Association (UAA) honorees, including the UAA Player of the Year and UAA Rookie of the Year.
Prior to his time at Miami, Fletcher was a three-time Division I OHSAA team state champion. His high school accolades include 2014 Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) Player of the Year, three-time First Team All-OCC, two-time Second Team All-District and the Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award Winner.
