4/15/2021 9:15:00 PM | Swimming and Diving
YPSILANTI, Mich. — The Miami University women's swimming and diving team competed in the first day of the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships on Thursday held on the campus of Eastern Michigan University.
After one day of competition, the 'Hawks sit in third place as a team with 148 points, and Buffalo currently leads all teams with 239.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The RedHawks began the championship with a third-place finish in the 200 freestyle relay (1:31.24). Nicole Maier, Honor Brodie-Foy, Rachel Botting, and Caroline Ehlers earned 32 points toward the RedHawks' place in the standings. Miami replicated the same result in the 400 medley relay, with Camila Lins De Mello, Anna Martin, Kayleigh Cannon, and Maier finishing in third with a time of 3:41.25.
- Maier earned an individual victory on day one, clinching the 500 freestyle event with a time of 4:39.96. Maier's winning time is a new MAC record by almost three seconds, and is a time that would've placed the freshman in the top-10 at this year's NCAA Championships.
- Lins de Mello had a great showing individually on day one, placing third in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:00.13. Brodie-Foy started her first MAC championship on a high note in the 50 freestyle, with a time of 23.04 to place third.
