OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University men's swimming and diving team won the MAC Championship on Saturday evening, scoring 932 points over the three-day meet. This is the RedHawks second title in three years. Miami capped the meet with multiple top finishes and event wins on the final day of competition. Along with the team title, Henju Duvenhage was named MAC Freshman Swimmer of the Year, along with MAC Swimmer of the Year, while Hollie Bonewit-Cron was given the honor of MAC Coach of the Year.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Neal Wolfram and James McGuire had a strong showing in the first final of the day in the 1650 freestyle event. Wolfram took second with a time of 15:32.63, and McGuire took third, finishing in 15:40.03.
- Owen Blazer and Fitz Miller (4th 1:48.39) were the Miami competitors in the 200 backstroke, with Blazer being the top finisher of the duo in third, with a time of 1:46.37.
- Ben Chatwin was a highlight for the 'Hawks in the 100 freestyle, finishing in 44.15 seconds in a competitive field to take second. Noah Barr had a similar feat in the 200 breaststroke, taking second with a time of 1:57.18.
- Henju Duvenhage continued his stellar MAC Championship, winning the title in the 200 butterfly, finishing in 1:44.46 to give Miami 20 points in the standings.
- To finish the final day of competition, the RedHawks claimed the top honors in the 400 freestyle relay, with Duvenhage, Pedro Gueiros, Nic Wamsley, and Chatwin finishing in 2:55.35, just .10 seconds behind the MAC record.
