AKRON, Ohio—A goal just over 11 minutes into the game proved to be the game winner as the Miami University soccer team seized a 1-0 decision against the University of Akron at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Miami improves to 3-2 on the season and in Mid-American Conference play, while the Zips drop to 0-4-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Each team had one shot on goal in the first five minute of the contest, with the respective goalkeepers coming up with saves.
- Miami got on the board first at the 11:33 mark as sophomore Jaimie Tottleben scored off a junior Kristina DeMarco assist to hand Miami a quick 1-0 lead.
- The teams played 78:27 scoreless minutes as the RedHawks went on to collect the 1-0 shutout against the Zips.
NOTES:
- In goal, junior Izzie Vaccari amasses six saves en route to her third win of the season and second shutout win for the RedHawks.
- Miami had three shots on goal for the day.
- It was the first career goal for Tottleben.
- DeMarco recorded her first assist of the season and third of her career.
