OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University swimming and diving team saw success on a senior day for the class of 2021 with a dual meet win against Xavier on Saturday. The women's squad won with a score of 186.5-66.5, and the men's team also got the victory, with 194 points to Xavier's 68.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Miami women began the afternoon by sweeping the podium in the 400 medley relay. Camila Lins De Mello, Anna Martin, Emily O'Connell, and Nicole Maier won the event (3:47.67). The Miami men's A relay in the same event with Mason Miller, Noah Barr, Spencer Klinsky, and Pedro Gueiros also finished in first, with a time of 3:17.37.
- The men had three of the top-five times in the 1000 free event. Neal Wolfram led the way (9:28.03), with James McGuire (2nd, 9:33.48) and Matt Fetterman (3rd, 9:49.89) finishing close behind. Gracie Taylor finished first in the women's version of the event (10:47.78).
- The Miami women achieved the top-three times in the 200 free. Maier came out on top (1:47.83) with Lins de Mello (1:48.18) and Peyton Rayburn (1:55.59) finishing in second and third, respectively. Similarly, on the men's side, Uroš Djokovic (1:40.52) and Nic Wamsley (1:40.81) grabbing second and third-place titles in the men's 200 free.
- The RedHawk men also finished in the top three spots in the 100 back. Klinsky picked up the event win (49.49), while Mason Miller finished second (51.12), with Fitz Miller finishing third (51.45). In the women's version of the same event, the podium was swept by Sam Sutton (1st, 1:03.68), Sara Lahrach-Sanchez (2nd, 1:04.09), and Anna Martin (3rd, 1:04.54)
- Barr grabbed an individual win in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.08. Kayleigh Cannon (2.00.90) and Ashlyn Underhill (2:04.35) were the top-two finishers in the women's 200 fly race.
- The 50 freestyle event was successful for both RedHawk squads, with Cole Grosshans (20.57) and Honor Brodie-Foy (23.71) grabbing both titles. Similarly, in the 100 free, Maier (51.79) and Ben Chatwin (45.40) won the events for Miami.
- Miami also saw sweeps of the podium in the 100 fly on the afternoon. On the women's side, Cannon (53.34), Underhill (56.60), O'Connell (56.97), and Brodie-Foy (56.98) got the top-four times. Klinsky (48.48), Ryan Sego (48.79), Henju Duvenhage (48.95), and Wamsley (49.71) also repeated the women's success.
- The Miami men and women each ended the meet with a win in the 200 free relays. Maier, O'Connell, Botting, and Brodie-Foy (1:34.60) won on the women's side while Gueiros, Grosshans, Chatwin, and Wamsley (1:20.19) got it done for the men.
WHAT'S NEXT:
The women's team will compete against Ball State in Oxford next weekend, on February 12. The dual meet is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. Both teams will return to the pool for the Miami First Chance meet, with day one scheduled for February 26.
