RedHawks Fall to Western Michigan, 3-0

OXFORD, Ohio - Splitting a two-match series with Western Michigan University, the Miami University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Broncos on Friday evening in Millett Hall. The RedHawks are 4-4 overall and in Mid-American Conference, while WMU moves to 7-3. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • Miami and Western Michigan both started strong in the opening set, trading kills until the Broncos used an 11-1 run to take a 17-9 lead. The RedHawks got as close as six but fell short, 25-16.
  • The RedHawks and Broncos started the second set continuing the back-and-forth battle until the RedHawks took a 17-11 lead with help from a trio of kills from junior Gaby Harper. WMU battled back, taking a 21-19 lead late in the set. Miami scored four straight points, including three consecutive kills from senior Sarah Wojick, to reclaim the lead, 23-21. It was not enough as the Broncos scored the last four points to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-23 win in the second set. 
  • Miami and Western Michigan battled back-and-forth in the third stanza with five ties early in the third set, the last coming at 7-7. WMU clawed its way to a 15-11 advantage. The RedHawks continued to fight back, cutting WMU's lead to two twice, 20-18 and 21-19. Miami was unable to get any closer as the Broncos took the match with a 25-20 win in the third set.
 
NOTES:   
UP NEXT: The RedHawks hit the road for a set of Thursday/Friday matches at Northern Illinois next week. Match times are scheduled for 5 p.m. (ET) on Thursday, Feb. 25 and 7 p.m. (ET) on Friday, Feb. 26.
