Miami Co-Ed Swimming Falls Short at Oakland

The Miami University swimming and diving teams came up short in their visit to Oakland University on Saturday, Nov. 13. The women's team lost 167-132, while the men's team fell 192.5-107.5.
 
How It Happened:
  • Miami swimmers placed first in six events across both teams, with the women's A relay team of Taylor Connors, Madeline Padavic, Honor Brodie-Foy and Nicole Maier also winning the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:27.20.
  • A swimmer from the RedHawks placed second in 13 of the remaining individual events, with many times within a second of the first place finishers. These include Natalie Stump in the 1000 freestyle (10:26.50), Padavic in the 100 backstroke (55.67), Ryan Sego in the 200 butterfly (1:53.21), Connors in the 50 freestyle (23.99) and the 100 freestyle (52.25), Jack Herczeg in the 100 freestyle (46.10) and Angelina Cakuls in the 200 backstroke (2:00.30).
  • Both the Miami women's and men's A relay teams placed second overall in the 200 medley relay; the women's team of Padavic, Sara Lahrach-Sanchez, Emily O'Connell and Connors finished with a time of 1:43.34 while the men's team of Owen Blazer, Adrian Dulay, Sego and Nic Wamsley earned a time of 1:31.85.
  • Maier earned first in all three of her individual events, topping the podium in the 200 freestyle (1:49.96), the 500 freestyle (4:56.50) and the 200 individual medley (2:03.65).
  • The top three spots in the 50 freestyle were dominated by Miami swimmers. Ben Chatwin placed first (20.74) with Pedro Gueiros and Wamsley placing second and third.
  • Other swimmers earning individual first place finishes included Erin Szczupakiewicz in the 200 butterfly (2:06.11) and Dulay in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.32).
  • Vivian Niekamp placed second in the 1 meter diving event with a score of 246.23 while Madeline Lutzko placed third. Karsten Dixon landed in third in the same event for the men with a score of 237.15, also placing third in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 253.95.
 
Up Next:
The Miami swimming and diving teams return home for the Miami Invitational beginning Thursday, Dec. 2 and running through Saturday, Dec. 4. Start times will be released within the coming weeks.
