Miami Completes 3-2 Comeback Victory Over Maine in OT

 Oxford, Ohio — On Wednesday afternoon, the Miami University field hockey team hosted its first ever NCAA Tournament Game against Maine. The RedHawks overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit as Noor Breedijk put the finishing touches on the game by scoring the game winning third goal for Miami in the 3-2 overtime win. Miami improves to 12-10 on the year and will advance to the first round of the NCAA Tournament, while Maine finishes the season at 15-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first five minutes of the game saw Maine control possession but neither team was able to generate any pressure on cage.
- After two penalty corners within two minutes of each other, Maine struck first with just more than four minutes to play in the first quarter to take a 1-0 lead.
- Following 15 minutes of action, Maine led Miami 2-0 in both penalty corners and shots and their 1-0 lead remained.
- The RedHawks were able to maintain possession more in the second quarter and generate some pressure unlike in the first quarter. Shots and penalty corners were even at the half. Maine still clung onto a 1-0 lead at the half, with their first quarter goal.
- With 8:26 remaining in the third quarter, Maine added to their lead off of a penalty corner goal, making the score 2-0.
- Miami responds at 6:30 left in the third quarter off of a Lexie Nugent goal putting the score at 2-1 Maine. The goal was assisted by Luli Rosso and Morgan Sturm off of a penalty corner.
- Two minutes later, Claudia Negrete Garcia scored the equalizer for the RedHawks on a rebound from a penalty corner, tying the game with the Black Bears 2-2.
- Heading into the fourth quarter, Miami led Maine in shots 8-5, while Maine held a 6-5 penalty corner advantage.
- In the fourth quarter both teams were able to get good looks on cage but were both saved. After 45 minutes played the score remained deadlocked at 2-2, sending the game into overtime. After regulation Miami led in shots 9-6, while Maine led in penalty corner 7-6.
- With 7:09 to play in overtime, Isabelle Perese made three huge consecutive saves for to keep the game even at 2-2.
- Following the saves, Miami pushed the ball down the field and Noor Breedijk put the winning goal into the back of the cage, resulting in the RedHawks 3-2 NCAA opening round victory over Maine. The goal was Breedijk's first on the season.
