RedHawks Fall in Tightly Contested Match with Wake Forest, 2-1

 Oxford, Ohio — On Sunday afternoon the Miami University field hockey team dropped a hard-fought game to Wake Forest 2-1. The loss makes Miami fall to 6-7 on the season as Wake Forest improves to 5-5.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The first quarter started a lot like many games have this year for the RedHawks, slow and defensive as both teams tried to settle in. Miami did create two very good chances off of a penalty corner with just less than six minutes left in the first quarter but was unable to capitalize.
- Wake Forest struck first with a goal at 23 seconds left in the first quarter to make the score 1-0 after 15 minutes played, while Miami led in shots 3-2 and penalty corners 1-0.
- At the half, Wake Forest held a 1-0 lead over the RedHawks, and shots were knotted up at three each. While Miami had the only penalty corner of the first half.
- With 11:56 left in the third quarter, Wake Forest added a goal off of a penalty corner, putting the score at 2-0 Demon Deacons.
- Off of a penalty corner with 1:46 in the third quarter left Claudia Negrete Garcia rifled a goal into the bottom left corner off the cage that was assisted by Madison Workman and Noor Breedijk, making the score at 2-1 Wake Forest. The goal scored by Negrete Garcia was her MAC leading tenth of the season.
- With 13:16 left in the fourth quarter, Isabelle Perese make an incredible diving save to her right, on a penalty stroke to keep the game within a goal for the RedHawks.
- The RedHawks threatened with three penalty corners in the fourth quarter, including one at 3:52 that almost saw them tie the game up.
- The game finished with Wake Forest leading in shots 12-10 and Miami leading in penalty corners 6-2. Perese recorded 8 saves for the RedHawks in the defeat.
