RedHawks Get Dual Meet Win Over Indianapolis

OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University swimming and diving team began 2021 with dual meet wins against University of Indianapolis on Saturday. The Miami women beat Indianapolis by a 151-61 margin while the Miami men won by a 159-61 margin. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Miami women began the afternoon by sweeping the podium in the 200 medley relay. Camila Lins de Mello, Sam Sutton, Emily O'Connell, and Honor-Brodie Foy won the event (1:42.32). The Miami men's A relay with Owen Blazer, Noah Barr, Henju Duvenhage, and Nic Wamsley also finished in first, with a time of 1:28.43.
  • The women had two of the top-five times in the 200 free. Camila Lins de Mello led the way (1:48.66), with Ashlyn Underhill finishing behind her in fourth with a time of 1:52.55. Gordon Wheeler finished second in the 200 free (1:40.73) for the men.
  • The Miami women achieved the top-three times in the 50 free. Honor Brodie-Foy led the way (23.52) with Rachel Botting (23.72) and Caroline Ehlers (24.20) finishing in second and third, respectively. Similarly on the men's side, Cole Grosshans (20.43) and Pedro Gueiros (20.58) grabbing first and second in the men's 50 free.
  • The RedHawk women also finished in the top three spots in the 200 IM. Maier picked up the event win (2:02.38), while Anna Martin finished second (2:07.16), with Sutton finishing third (2:08.95). In the men's 200 IM, Duvenhage, Jack Clouatre, and Ryan Sego claimed the top three spots.
  • The women swept the podium in the 100 fly. Kayleigh Cannon won the event (55.08) with O'Connell (55.14) and Underhill (57.16) finishing in second and third, respectively. Julia Kral was right behind the trio, finishing in fourth with a time of 58.07. On the men's side, Spencer Klinsky had the fastest time (48.58).
  • Lins de Mello grabbed an individual win in the 100 free with a time of 49.89. Botting (52.78) and Bryanna Renuart (53.09) grabbed second and third behind her to get crucial points for Miami. Nic Wamsley (44.85), Ben Chatwin (45.43), and Grosshans (45.54) were the top-three finishers in the men's 100 free race.
  • Blazer, a dynamic freshman for the RedHawks, grabbed his own individual title in the 100 back, finishing in 49.49 to get the event title on the day. Nicole Maier also got a title of her own in the 500 free, with a 4:49.30, eight seconds ahead of the swimmer from the visitors from Indianapolis.
  • The women had the two-fastest times in the 100 breaststroke. Anna Martin won the event for the women (1:04.09) while Adrian Dulay won the event for the men (54.98). 
  • The Miami men and women each ended the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. Maier, Botting, Brodie-Foy and Ehlers (1:33.99) won on the women's side while Gueiros, Blazer, Grosshans, and Wamsley (1:21.39) got it done for the men.

The RedHawk women and men are back in action on Friday, Jan. 29 with a dual meet against Cleveland State at 1 p.m.
