The 2006 Stanley Cup Champion becomes Miami hockey’s first NHL GM.
BUFFALO – Former Miami University hockey standout Kevyn Adams was promoted to General Manager of the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday morning.
Adams, a 1996 Miami graduate, becomes the first former Miami hockey player to rise to the ranks of GM at the NHL level. The four-year standout for the Red & White had been serving as the Sabres' senior vice president of business administration.
Drafted by the Boston Bruins with the 25th overall pick of the 1993 NHL Draft, Adams starred on the ice in Oxford. He helped guide Miami to its first ever NCAA Tournament appearance and conference title when it won the Central Collegiate Hockey Association in the 1992-93 season. In four years with the Red & White, Adams amassed 172 points on 69 goals and 103 assists. His point total still ranks fourth all-time in program history.
Following his time at Miami, Adams went on to play 10 seasons in the NHL. He suited up for 300 of his 540 NHL games with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he became the second Miami player to win a Stanley Cup in 2006. Following his player career, Adams also spent two seasons as an assistant coach on the Sabres' bench.
Adams was inducted into Miami's Hall of Fame in 2011.
