
Four Double-Figure Scorers Power RedHawks Past Falcons

The RedHawks beat Bowling Green by an 80-59 margin on Saturday.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team (9-11, 2-6 MAC) beat Bowling Green by an 80-59 margin on Saturday.
The RedHawks offense was powered by four double-figure scorers. Peyton Scott tied for the game-high 23 points while Lauren Dickerson (18), Savannah Kluesner (13) and Abbey Hoff (11) also reached double figures. Miami outrebounded Bowling Green 41-28.
Miami took an early 9-2 lead, forcing a Bowling Green timeout with 7:26 to play in the first quarter. The Falcons went on a 10-2 run out of the timeout to take BG's first lead of the game, 12-11, just past the midway point of the opening quarter.
The teams went back and forth for the rest of the first quarter. Bowling Green scored the final four points of the opening quarter to take a 18-15 lead after 10 minutes of play.
Peyton Scott trimmed Bowling Green's lead to just one point, but the Falcons responded with back-to-back baskets to hold a 24-19 lead after two minutes of play in the second quarter. Midway through the quarter, BG led 26-21.
The rest of the second quarter was all Miami as the RedHawks scored 15-straight points to take a 36-26 lead with under a minute to play before halftime. The Falcons scored the final points of the first half as the RedHawks had the 36-28 advantage going into the locker room.
Dickerson was the first player in the game to reach double figures, doing so with two free throws with 2:14 left in the first half. She added a three-pointer before the first half ended.
Miami outscored Bowling Green 21-10 in the second quarter as the RedHawks shot 56.3 percent from the floor. The Miami defense allowed no three-pointers in the second quarter.
Hoff opened the second half with a basket to regain Miami's 10-point lead before Bowling Green was able to trim that lead to only four points on a three-pointer with 6:31 to play in the third quarter. Scott responded with a three-pointer on the next possession to reach double figures for the afternoon.
Amani Freeman scored the next trio of points for the RedHawks and Kenzie Schmitz scored the final five for the Red and White during the third quarter, including a three-pointer.
The Miami defense held Bowling Green to just one field goal in the final six-and-a-half minutes of the third quarter as the RedHawks took a 54-44 lead into the fourth quarter.
Miami began the fourth quarter with a 10-5 run, seven of those points came from Scott. Hoff became the fourth RedHawk in double figures with seven minutes to play as the Red and White held a 66-51 lead.
Scott sunk her third three-pointer of the game to reach the 20-point plateau midway through the fourth quarter as the RedHawks continued to extend their lead to 71-53.
Miami had the 26-15 advantage during the fourth quarter to cap scoring at 80-59.
Miami returns home on Monday to begin a three-game home stand. The RedHawks host Western Michigan at 7 p.m.
