RedHawks See Success at Miami Invite

OXFORD, Ohio — The Miami University swimming and diving team completed their first meet of the season, and completed the third and final day of the Miami Invitational on Friday. The meet is the final meet of the 2020 calendar year, with the rest of the meet schedule taking place in 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Nicole Maier was the top finisher in the 200-yard butterfly event, with a time of 2:01.21 in the finals, with Kayleigh Cannon finishing not far behind in second with a time of 2:02.47.
  • Camila Lins de Mello (49.94) competed in the 100-yard freestyle event, grabbing the first place title in that event after improving on her preliminary time by one second. Teammate Honor Brodie-Foy grabbed the runner-up position with a time of 51.12.
  • The RedHawk women also won the 400 freestyle relay. In the 400 freestyle relay, Lins de Mello, Maier, Brodie-Foy and Rachel Botting swam a 3:23.79. 
  • Neal Wolfram added to the titles on the men's side, and swam a 15:58.91 in the 1650-yard individual medley to capture the title. James McGuire (16:17.75) and Austin Theobald 16:32.47) weren't far behind, and finished in second and third respectively.
  • Freshman Owen Blazer added to his successful day yesterday, and finished five second ahead of the second-place finisher in the 200-yard backstroke event with a time of 1:48.20. Fitz Miller finished behind Blazer with a time of 1:53.20 to finish in second.
  • The Miami men dominated in the 100-yard backstroke event, grabbing the top-eight spots in the event, led by Nic Wamsley (45.07), Ben Chatwin (45.68), and Cole Grosshans (45.98) in the top-three positions.
  • The RedHawk men also won the 400 freestyle relay. In the 400 freestyle relay, Duvenhage, Wamsley, Chatwin and Grosshans swam a 2:59.71. 
  • Noah Barr also secured an individual title of his own, finishing in 2:01.43 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sam Curran finished in third in the same event, with a time of 2:05.29.
  • Henju Duvenhage and Spencer Klinsky went one-two in the 200-yard butterfly, grabbing 37 crucial points for Miami in the standings.
  • In the diving well, Karsten Dixon grabbed the title in the 3-mtr dive (268.25), with teammate Sam Sulek finishing in sixth (195.40). Mackenzie Foltz led the women in the 1-mtr dive (246.40) with a first-place finish while Maddie Folta was third in the 1-mtr dive (228.10).
