Brett Gabbert and
Jack Sorenson hooked up for four touchdowns and the Miami University defense was dominant from the opening snap as the RedHawks downed the Akron Zips 38-7. The win is Miami's 700
th in school history.

Gabbert finished the game 18-of-27 for 308 yards and four touchdowns, while Sorenson had eight receptions for a career-high 177 yards and four scores. Gabbert added a career-high 48 yards rushing as well.

How it Happened:
- Akron came into Saturday's contest averaging 352.3 total yards and 186.3 yards on the ground. The Miami defense held the Zips to 145 yards and four yards rushing on 28 attempts.
- The defense controlled the line of scrimmage throughout, recording 7.0 sacks and 10.0 tackles for loss. The pressure helped lead to Miami's lone interception as well.
- Kameron Butler led the way with 2.5 sacks and was joined by Ben Kimpler (1.5), Cecil Singleton (1.0), Ryan McWood (1.0) and Matthew Salopek (1.0).
- On Miami's first drive of the game, Brett Gabbert caught Akron in a blitz, completing a short screen pass to Sorenson. Sorenson went untouched for a 61-yard touchdown.
- Henry Beckett moved Miami's lead to 10-0 early in the second quarter with a career-long 42-yard field goal.
- Miami's offensive onslaught continued on its next drive, capped by a 29-yard touchdown from Gabbert to Sorenson. Miami led 17-0 with 6:10 remaining in the second quarter.
- Sorenson added his third touchdown of the first half, an incredible back-pylon catch over a Zip defender. The 28-yard reception put Sorenson over 100 yards receiving with under two minutes to play in the opening half.
- Miami made it 31-0 late in the third when Emmanuel Rugamba recorded his first interception of the year, returning it for a 62-yard touchdown. It was Miami's first pick-6 since Ja'don Rucker-Furlow had a 28-yard touchdown in a win at Northern Illinois.
- Sorenson's final touchdown was a 15-yard slant to move Miami's lead to 38-0.
- Sorenson wasn't the only receiver to have a big game. Junior Mac Hippenhammer, playing in his first game with the RedHawks, had five catches for 77 yards.
