Miami University hosts Tennessee Tech on Saturday, Sept. 7 in its 2019 home opener. Opening kick is slated for 2:30 p.m.

The matchup with the Golden Eagles will be carried live on the ESPN+. Robert Lee will handle play-by-play duties, while Dustin Fox will serve as the color analyst.

In its first year of its partnership with Van Wagner, the Miami Sports Network continues its coverage of Miami Football with a group of affiliates blanketing most of Southwest Ohio and Southeast Indiana. "The Voice of the RedHawks"

About Chuck Martin
• Head coach
Chuck Martin, who earned that title on Dec. 3, 2013, brings an impressive resume to Oxford, Ohio.
• Not only was he 74-7 in six years at Grand Valley State (2004-09), he has coached in seven national championship games in the past 17 seasons.  Martin has an all-time head coaching record of 96-47.
• He has twice been named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Coach of the Year and has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball.
• Martin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 23, 2015.
Recap Vs. Iowa
Despite taking a lead in the second quarter and trailing by just three at the half, the Miami RedHawks fell away late to lose 38-14 to the #20 Iowa Hawkeyes in their season opener at Kinnick Stadium.Â
Gabbert found
Jack Sorenson in the back of the end zone to give Miami a 7-3 lead with 11:54 left in the second quarter. Following three straight Iowa touchdowns,
Andrew Homer hauled in a 20-yard score as Miami trailed just 24-14 with 12:53 left in the game. The Hawkeyes added two late touchdowns for the final 38-14 tally.
About Tennesse Tech
Tennessee Tech is coming off a 59-58 double overtime win over Samford last Saturday. In the win, quarterback Bailey Fisher threw for 415 yards and two touchdowns, while adding 48 yards and three scores on the ground.

Miami is 1-0 all-time versus Tennessee Tech. These two teams last played in 1953, a contest Miami won 44-6.
Home Cooking
Miami has been tough to beat in home openers. Through the years, Miami has posted a 90-33-4 all-time record in home openers. The RedHawks are also 100-79-4 all-time at Yager Stadium. Saturday is also Miami's homecoming, in which the RedHawks are 61-36-4 all-time in homecoming contests.

Last week Miami was a perfect 2-for-2 in the redzone, coming away with two touchdowns versus the Hawkeyes. Last season, Miami was 42-for-43 in the red zone with 35 (81.4%) touchdowns. Miami was also 33-for-33 in the red zone during MAC play with 27 touchdowns last year.Â

Gabbert Makes Miami History
Last Saturday,
Brett Gabbert accomplished something never before seen at Miami. Gabbert became the first true freshman quarterback to start in a season opener in Miami history. The freshman was solid in his debut, completing 17-of-27 passes for 186 yards and two touchdowns. His lone interception did not occur until late in the fourth quarter.

Chasing History
Maurice Thomas, a local product from Talawanda High School, ranks third all-time in the record books with 1,824 kick return yards. Jamal Rogers (1,950) and Milt Bowen (1,826) are the lone two that stand in his way from claiming the top spot in Miami history. Thomas has also added 753 rushing yards on the ground and 230 yards through the air for a total of 2,807 yards in his career. Talawanda High School is 2,816 yards away from Yager Stadium, meaning Thomas is nine yards shy of the distance between the two schools.
