RedHawks Drop One-Goal Decision at Kramig Unveiling

Miami’s new pitch has a name as its legendary coach was honored prior to its match with Xavier.

OXFORD, Ohio – Miami soccer supporters from all eras gathered in Oxford as Bobby Kramig Field was unveiled to the masses prior to the team's Friday afternoon tilt with Xavier. The visiting Musketeers spoiled the celebration, however, by prevailing in the RedHawks' non-conference finale by a 1-0 count.

The loss is Miami's (1-6) fourth one-goal setback this season.

Xavier struck in the sixth minute when Samantha Dewey fired a 20-yard free kick home to go up 1-0. The Musketeers fired the first 11 shots of the contest with the RedHawks getting a crack off the foot of Olivia Winnett in the 42nd minute. MU went to the break trailing by the early Dewey tally.

Miami pushed to get more established possession at the offensive end in the second half and had some spurts of getting formed up in the attacking third. One particularly threatening play came in the 77th minute as Elle Gill got a step into the right flank of the box and slipped a low pass that got by the keeper towards the far post, but MU was unable to find the ball to tie it up in the prime position. The Musketeers would end up salting the match away from there to finish the shutout.

XU outshot MU 22-1 on the day and had a 7-0 spread in corner kicks. Izzie Vaccari stopped four shots in her fifth-straight start in net.

Miami begins Mid-American Conference play on Sept. 27 by hosting Eastern Michigan. Opening kick is at 4 p.m.
