RedHawks Face #6 Ohio State on Saturday

This Week's Matchup
For the first time since 2012 the Miami football team will face-off with Ohio State on Saturday, Sept. 21. Opening kick is slated for 3:30 p.m.
Television
The matchup with the Buckeyes will be carried live on the Big Ten Network. Brandon Gaudin will handle play-by-play duties, while James Laurinaitis will serve as the color analyst. Elise Menaker will handle the sideline duties.
Radio
In its first year of its partnership with Van Wagner, the Miami Sports Network continues its coverage of Miami Football with a group of affiliates blanketing most of Southwest Ohio and Southeast Indiana. "The Voice of the RedHawks" Steve Baker will deliver the play-by-play coverage, while Terry Bridge will provide color commentary. Randy Hollowell will be the network's sideline reporter. About Chuck Martin
• Head coach Chuck Martin, who earned that title on Dec. 3, 2013, brings an impressive resume to Oxford, Ohio.
• Not only was he 74-7 in six years at Grand Valley State (2004-09), he has coached in seven national championship games in the past 17 seasons.  Martin has an all-time head coaching record of 97-48.
• He has twice been named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) National Coach of the Year and has been a coordinator on both sides of the ball.
• Martin was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Grand Valley State University on Oct. 23, 2015.
Recap Vs. Cincinnati
Miami scored the game's first 10 points and led 10-0 after 15 minutes of play. Cincinnati answered with a touchdown early in the second quarter and Miami then fumbled at the UC 12-yard line and the Bearcats then drove the field to take a 14-10 lead into the half and never looked back.
Cincinnati outgained Miami 420-207 on the day, including 234-64 on the ground. Gabbert finished the day 10-of-18 with 143 yards passing while Shelton led MU with 39 yards rushing.
Notes From Cincinnati
• Cam Blakely had his first career catch.
• Kameron Butler had a career-high seven tackles, 2.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss versus the Bearcats.
• Tyre Shelton scored his first career touchdown.

About Ohio State
Ohio State is currently ranked No. 6 in the country and are coming off a 51-10 win at Indiana. Quarterback Justin Fields has thrown for 657 yards and nine touchdowns this year and has added 114 yards and four scores on the ground. Overall, the offense averages 46.0 points and 501.7 yards per game. Defensively, they allow 10.3 points and 252.7 yards per game. Chase Young has 11 tackles and 5.0 sacks on the season.
Series Vs. Ohio State
Ohio State is 5-0 in the series that dates back to 1904. These two teams last played in 2012, a contest the Buckeyes won 56-10.
Preseason Poll
Miami was picked to finish second in the MAC East 2019 Media Preseason Poll. Ohio was picked to win the East with 144 points, recording all 24 first-place votes. The RedHawks were second with 107 points, followed by Buffalo (100 points), Kent State (62 points), Akron (54 points) and Bowling Green (37 points). Toledo was picked to win the West Division.
New Faces on Offense
After graduating 25 seniors last season the RedHawks have several new faces on the team this year, many of them on the offensive side of the ball.
QB Brett Gabbert: First true freshman to begin a season as Miami's starting quarterback in school history. Is also the brother of NFL quarterback Blaine Gabbert. Has thrown for 481 yards and two touchdowns in three career starts.
RB Tyre Shelton: Redshirt freshman leads the team with 108 yards rushing through three games
Red Means Go
Miami is 11-for-12 this season on red zone opportunities. Its lone miss was a fumble  inside the red zone last week at UC. In those 12 attempts, Miami has scored eight (66.7%) touchdowns. Last season, Miami was 42-for-43 in the red zone with 35 (81.4%) touchdowns. Miami was also 33-for-33 in the red zone during MAC play with 27 touchdowns last year. In its last 15 games, Miami has scored on 53-of-55 red zone opportunities.
Martin vs. the MAC Since 2016
Miami is 16-6 in MAC play over its last 22 games, tied for the best conference record in that span. NIU and Toledo are also 16-6, followed by WMU (15-7) and Ohio (15-7).
Offensive Line A Strength
Heading into this week's action Miami has one of the most veteran offensive lines in the nation. Overall, Miami's offensive line has started a combined 82 games. Danny Godlevske leads the bunch with 26 starts, followed by Jarrett LaRubbio (22), Tommy Doyle (17) , Matt Skibinski (14), Pete Nank (2) and David Redding (1).Â
Jack of All Trades
Sorenson exploded onto the scene in 2018. After not recording a single catch in 2016 (redshirted) or 2017, Sorenson earned third team All-MAC honors in 2018 after recording 53 catches for 742 yards and two touchdowns. He posted five catches for 44 yards and a score at Iowa.
Last Chance U
The hit documentary show on Netflix, Last Chance U, featured Independence Community College. Junior defensive back Zedrick Raymond, now a member of the Miami University football team, was part of that show. During the 2017 season he led the team with four interceptions.
Keeps Getting Better
Doug Costin has played 39 games (26 starts) for the RedHawks, all along the defensive line, and each year he gets better. After recording just 1.5 sacks in 2016, Costin had 5.0 in 2017 and 6.0 in 2018, earning second team All-MAC accolades. In his career, the defensive tackle has posted 124 tackles, 21.5 tackles for loss and 12.5 sacks.
Butler Cleaning House
Through two games Kameron Butler had just two tackles on the stat sheet. He exploded onto the scene last Saturday at Cincinatti, recording a career-high seven tackles, 2.0 sacks and 4.0 tackles for loss.
Chasing History
Maurice Thomas, a local product from Talawanda High School, ranks second all-time in the record books with 1,917 kick return yards. Jamal Rogers (1,950) is the lone RedHawk that stands in his way from claiming the top spot in Miami history. Thomas has also added 792 rushing yards on the ground and 237 yards through the air for a total of 2,946 yards in his career.
Kicking It With Sloman
Senior Sam Sloman can be found throughout the Miami record books.
• Is 10th all-time in field goals made (27)
• Is fifth in field goal percentage (.735)
• Is seventh in extra points made (85), seventh in extra points attempted (87) and fourth in extra point percentage (.977).
