CLEVELAND – Recent Miami graduates Kendall McCoy (women's basketball) and James Wray (men's swimming and diving) were honored with the Mid-American Conference Medal of Excellence Award as part of the MAC Spring Meetings. The Medal of Excellence is an award presented annually to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each of the 12 Conference member institutions.
To be honored with the Medal of Excellence Award, student-athletes had to participate on the varsity level in a conference sponsored sport and shown evidence of academic success with a minimum 3.50 accumulative grade-point average, exhibited athletics excellence, leadership and service. Selection of the recipients was made by each MAC institution.
McCoy was named MAC Honorable Mention following the conclusion of her senior season after averaging 11.4 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game and leading the team in both free-throw percentage and three-point percentage. She became the seventh player in program history to reach both 1,000 points and 600 rebounds, wrapping up her RedHawk career ranking in the top 10 in four career categories. McCoy earned a 3.52 cumulative GPA in kinesiology and was named Academic All-MAC each year she was eligible.
Wray was named All-MAC Second Team after helping lead the men's team to its first MAC Championship since 2006. He set a new school record in the 800 free relay as it won the event. Also at the MAC Championships, Wray finished second in the 200 back, fourth in the 100 back and seventh in the 200 IM. He won 16 events during the regular season as a senior. Wray earned a 3.80 GPA in finance and was named Academic All-MAC each year he was eligible. He was also named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete in 2018-19 and 2016-17.
