The group of more than 130 will convene for alumni games that are open to the public on Saturday.
OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami hockey program's annual alumni weekend is set to be a record-breaking affair.
Over 130 alumni encompassing all eras of the program's history will be represented in the annual event hosted by the Blue Line Club. Following the usual golf outing on Friday, fans are invited to attend the alumni games on Saturday. Those contests will start at noon and be held at the B pad of the Goggin Ice Center.
The key attraction of the group is the vast majority of the 2008-09 national runner-up team returning to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the team's first Frozen Four appearance. After falling in the regional final two-years in a row, the 2008-09 team parlayed its fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance into victories over Denver and Minnesota Duluth to win the Midwest Regional. A 4-1 victory over Bemidji State in the national semifinal pitted the Red & White against top-seeded Boston University in the first national championship appearance for any of Miami's NCAA sports. While MU fell in overtime to BU, the program returned to the Frozen Four as the NCAA's top seed the following year and made five more NCAA Tournament appearances in the six years that followed, including league championships in 2010, 2011, 2013 and 2015.
This weekend's attendees also include six Miami Hall of Famers, eight All-Americans along with several current NHL players. The schedule for the alumni games are included below.
