Hawks End Skid With Dominant Performance Over Zips

Box Score OXFORD, Ohio – The Miami University women's basketball team ended its three game losing streak with an impressive 66-49 win over Akron on Saturday afternoon. The win moves Miami to 22-7 overall and 13-5 in Mid-American Conference play. Akron falls to 16-13, 7-11.

The 13 conference wins for the RedHawks are tied for the fourth most in school history. The last time Miami had at least 13 conference wins was back when the 2003-04 team went 14-2 in MAC play.

Seniors Kendall McCoy, Kristen Levering, Leah Purvis and Baleigh Reid were honored prior to the game.

Lauren Dickerson moved into fourth place in school history with 1,617 points, following a 19 point effort versus the Zips. Savannah Kluesner was the only other RedHawk to score in double figures with 14 points.

Miami dominated the glass all afternoon, out-rebounding UA 43-29. Levering led all players with 10 boards.

Akron began the game on fire from deep, opening the contest with an 18-14 run. Miami answered with 9-4 run of their own as the RedHawks pounded the ball inside with six straight points from Kluesner and Levering, leading 23-18 with four minutes left in the second quarter.

Dickerson extended Miami's lead to nine at 30-21 with five straight points, including a pull-up jumper from behind the arc.

Miami took a 32-23 lead into the locker room.

Akron cut Miami's lead to just three points at 42-39 with 4:28 remaining in the third, but a Reid reverse layup, followed by back-to-back layups from McCoy and Kluesner extended the Red and White's lead to 48-39 with two minutes left in the quarter.

The Zips could get no closer as Miami outscore UA 12-7 in the final quarter.
