Darrell Hallberg, Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Services and Special Projects, was recently awarded the Tony Anderson Award for his outstanding work in the equipment profession. Hallberg was the District 5 winner which includes all equipment managers from Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
Â
"What an honor and privilege to receive this award from my District 5 colleagues," said Hallberg. "District 5 is by far one of the best if not the best in the country and to have their vote and support means the world to me. To be totally honest this award is not about me and I mean that. This award is about the Miami Equipment Operations Department and every student manager and assistant both current and former. I truly believe without them there is no award. They are and always have been the backbone of our operation. We've been blessed here to have the support of our athletic administration, coaches and staff. Our mission of Graduating Champions affects all facets of our Athletic Department."
Â
The award is named after Tony Anderson, a founding member of the Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA). Anderson was an equipment manager at Indiana until passing away at an early age.
Â
Hallberg is one of nine district winners. The district winners will be narrowed down to three and the AEMA will vote for the Glenn Sharp award, given annually to the National Equipment Manager of the Year.
