RedHawks host Ball State Friday and Northern Illinois Sunday.
UPDATE 3/29: Saturday's match vs. Ball State has officially been moved indoors to Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton.
OXFORD, Ohio - Fresh off a come-from-behind road victory in a rematch of last year's conference championship against Buffalo, the Miami University women's tennis team will look to bring their strong form home this weekend as the 'Hawks host two Mid-American Conferences opponents this weekend. The Cardinals of Ball State will come to Oxford Friday, followed by a match against Northern Illinois on Sunday. Both tilts are scheduled for 1 p.m. starts at the Miami University Tennis Courts (the venue may be moved indoors to Riverside Athletic Club in case of inclement weather).
LAST TIME OUT
The RedHawks (4-10, 1-1 MAC) split their opening conference matches on the road against the teams selected first and second in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll. On Friday, Miami began its conference campaign with a tight 4-3 loss at Akron. The 'Hawks would bounce back Sunday, overcoming a 3-1 deficit and several match points to storm back and take revenge on Buffalo, last year's MAC Champion. The 4-3 victory was highlighted by three straight nail-biting victories in three sets from Milana Lysova, Priyana Kalita, and Melati Devi to close things out.
MATCHUP WITH THE CARDINALS
BSU will come to Oxford with a 12-3 record propelled by a non-conference season in which the Cardinals fell to only Louisville and the University of Indianapolis. The opening weekend of MAC play saw the Cards go 1-1, falling 4-3 to Western Michigan and sweeping Toledo 7-0. This year's Ball State club is led by Sarah Swiderski and Audrey Berger at the top two singles positions. Peyton Gollhofer (8-1) and Rebecca Harrington (9-0) hold strong records and third and fourth singles respectively. Miami rolled through Ball State 6-1 last season, and commands the all-time series by a 46-4 mark.
MATCHUP WITH THE HUSKIES
The Huskies, looking to bounce back from a winless MAC season last year, sit at 5-10 in their 2019 campaign. The start of conference play has seen NIU go 0-2, falling by identical 5-2 scorelines to both Toledo and Western Michigan. Jovana Peric and Maria Potsi occupy the top of the lineup for the Huskies, with Brodie Walker rounding out the top three. Last year's meeting saw the RedHawks defeat Northern Illinois 6-1 in DeKalb, and the Red and White are 34-3 all-time versus the Huskies.
MAC STANDINGS CHECK
Through one weekend of conference play, only Akron and Western Michigan went undefeated with 2-0 records. Bowling Green and Northern Illinois sit winless at 0-2, while Miami and the rest of the conference split their first weekend at 1-1.
LOOKING AHEAD
Another weekend of home tennis will commence next week, as Miami will host Toledo next Friday, April 5 in Oxford. Then, MU will take a brief detour from the conference grind to host the Dayton Flyers in Oxford on Saturday, April 6.
