BUFFALO, N.Y. - A 3-1 deficit to the reigning conference champions wasn't enough to keep the Miami tennis team down Sunday, as the RedHawks rallied to win three straight nail-biters and take down Buffalo 4-3. The RedHawks improve to 4-10 (1-1 Mid-American Conference) while Buffalo falls to 12-4 (1-1 MAC)
The Bulls claimed the doubles point to start the match, winning 6-2 at second doubles and 6-4 on the first court. Miami's
Emily Struble and
Melati Devi were still battling down 5-4 at third doubles when the point was clinched.
To kick off singles, the RedHawks would quickly get on the board and pull things level as Freshman
Brindtha Ramasamy grabbed a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over the Bulls' Martinez Blanco at the top of the lineup. However, Buffalo would quickly jump out into the lead again after taking victories on courts five and three. These wins put the Bulls up 3-1 and within one point of clinching the match.
The Bulls would never find that clinching point, however, as the RedHawks won three straight in third-set tiebreaks to steal the match from Buffalo.
Milana Lysova would finish first after she recovered from a 6-2 loss in the first and a deficit in the third set to win 2-6, 6-3, 7-6 on court two.
Priyana Kalita followed suit, winning 7-6 in the deciding third set to take down Hsin-Yuan Shih from UB and draw the match all square.
This would turn the match at court six into a sudden death, winner-take-all contest. It was Devi who got the job done for the RedHawks, as she broke a 5-all third set deadlock by winning two games in a row to clinch the match for Miami 4-3 and send the 'Hawks into celebration.

The RedHawks will return to Oxford for two MAC clashes next weekend, hosting Ball State Friday and Northern Illinois Sunday.
