RedHawks wrap up the conference meet in tenth.
KENT, Ohio - The Miami University women's track and field team drew its indoor campaign to a close Saturday on the final day of the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships at Kent State University. The RedHawks placed tenth overall with 29 points; 21 of those points came in Saturday's action.
The biggest performance of the day came out of the 4x400 team who came into the weekend on a string of top-two finishes across the indoor season. Saturday was no exception, as the 'Hawks put together their best time of the year to place second. Kalliopi Kountouri, Sarah Bruns, Emily Hooker, and Olivia Bechtel combined to run a 3:43.26 and take the home the silver medal while earning eight points for their performance.
Bechtel appeared in two other finals on the day, racking up eight more points between them. The junior ran a 24.32 in the 200m, just off her personal record time of 24.29 set during yesterday's prelims, to garner a fifth-place finish. She also placed in the top five in the 400m finals, as she ran a 54.76 for fifth. Hooker came in just behind her as her personal record 54.92 run gave her a sixth-place spot and gave the RedHawks three further points.
Another finals appearance on the track came from Rachel Kotchman in the 800m. Kotchman, a part of yesterday's distance medley relay that reached the podium, placed eighth in the 800 with a 2:14.59 mark.
The RedHawks' other points came from Hannah Falcione over in the field, who jumped a distance of 12.02m in the triple jump to finish eight and notch one point for Miami.
Elsewhere, Emma Mashburn turned in two solid runs in both the mile and 3000m, but was just left out of scoring position.
Full results from the meet are linked above.
The conference crown ended up with the Chippewas of Central Michigan, who put up 114.50 points across the two-day meet.
The RedHawk women will now turn their attention to the approaching outdoor season. Miami will host the opening meet of outdoor competition with the Blizzard Buster on March 23 in Oxford at the George L. Rider Track.
