The RedHawks will be looking to get back into the win column after three-match slide.
OXFORD, Ohio - After a tough weekend against two local rivals, the Miami University women's tennis team will look to right the ship this Saturday against the Hilltoppers of Western Kentucky. The RedHawks will host WKU at Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, with the match starting at 2:30.
LAST TIME OUT
The 'Hawks played a pair of matches in Cincinnati last weekend, taking on both University of Cincinnati and Xavier. Unfortunately for Miami, neither match went its way as the RedHawks fell 5-2 to the Bearcats and 6-1 to the Musketeers. Freshman Brindtha Ramasamy was able to earn a victory on both days at number one singles, while junior Emily Struble added a singles win on Saturday against Cincinnati.
SCOUTING THE HILLTOPPERS
Western Kentucky has gotten off to a tough start to the season, as the Hilltoppers are yet to find their first victory at 0-7. They do share one common opponent with Miami, as both squads lost to Kentucky to open their respective seasons. The RedHawks and Toppers did meet last year in Johnson City, Tenn., with that match ending with no official winner. None of WKU's starting singles players from that match return; this year's edition is led by Laura Bernardos and Lisa Friess at positions one and two. The RedHawks are 3-0 all time against the Hilltoppers.
RAMASAMY IN THE RANKINGS
With the release of the first ITA Singles Rankings of the 2019 spring season back on Feb. 6, Ramasamy became the third RedHawk to ever appear in the national top-125. She retained her spot in the most recent release of the rankings on Feb. 19, coming in at #105 in the nation. The freshman out of Toronto is 6-1 at number one singles this season after adding two more victories last weekend.
LOOKING AHEAD
The RedHawks will be back on the road starting next weekend with a trip to Bloomington on March 2 to take on the Indiana Hoosiers. First serve will be at 6 p.m. for that match. Following that, the 'Hawks will migrate south to Orlando to play UCF and Penn on March 8-9.
