Friday marks the opening event of the 2019-20 track season.
OXFORD, Ohio - The 2019-20 track and field/cross country season will begin to make its way inside on Friday when the Miami Women's Track and Field Team opens it's indoor season at Bowling Green.
The season opener will get underway at 5 p.m. at BGSU's Perry Field House with the start of field events. Proceedings on the track will kick off an hour later, at 6 p.m.
Miami will be one of three teams in attendance on Friday, as the RedHawks and host Falcons are joined by the Vikings of Cleveland State. The RedHawks will send entries into each event on the schedule.
For most RedHawk athletes, Friday will be the first taste of competition on the 2019-20 season. Senior Olivia Bechtel leads the groups of returnees on the track and will look to end her storied Miami career with a strong campaign; the Bay Village native added three school records and was named Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the outdoor MAC meet during her junior year. Sarah Bruns, who joined Bechtel in setting the school's outdoor 4x400 record last year, is another name to watch out for on the track. Mallory Harr is MU's top returner in the hurdles and will also look to make an impact.
Over on the field side, standouts Hannah Falcione and Danielle Collier, fresh off her NCAA Nationals appearance last year, are among the stable of returning athletes who will get their season started on Friday. Collier will throw in the weight throw and shot put while Falcione will jump in both the long jump and triple jump.
Several RedHawk freshman will also get their first taste of collegiate track action on Friday, with Kayla Walters, Gabby Cossio, Jenna Sayle, and Elena Pazman among those making their debuts.
Live results can be found during the meet at the link above. The meet will not be scored on a team basis.
The Bowling Green Opener marks the final event of the 2019 calendar year, as the RedHawks will not get back to the track until January 17 when they head to Vanderbilt.
