Lauren Dickerson scored 37 points while Savannah Kluesner recorded a double-double.
RICHMOND, Ky. – The Miami University women's basketball team (3-1) beat Eastern Kentucky by a 75-57 margin on Wednesday.
Lauren Dickerson put up 22 points in the first half of play, moving into third on Miami's all-time scoring list, on her way to a game-high 37 points. Savannah Kluesner recorded her second-straight and 14th-career double-double, scoring 14 points and adding 13 rebounds.
Five lead changes and three ties summed up a back-and-forth first quarter. Dickerson gave Miami its first lead of the game with 6:22 to play in the first quarter with her first of four three-pointers of the first half.
Dickerson wrapped up the first quarter with the final two baskets on the floor to begin a Miami scoring run. The RedHawks led 21-16 after 10 minutes of play.
Miami scored the first 13 points of the second quarter and held Eastern Kentucky without a point until 3:28 remaining in the first half. During the run is when Dickerson moved up to third on the all-time RedHawk scoring list.
The RedHawks would go on to outscore EKU 20-6 during the second quarter as the RedHawk defense forced Eastern Kentucky to shoot just 18.8 percent from the field during the quarter. Dickerson recorded her second-straight and 41st-career 20-point game. Peyton Scott completed a four-point play as she was fouled on a three-point shot and Miami had the 41-22 lead at halftime.
Eastern Kentucky made a push coming out of halftime, outscoring Miami 24-14 in the third quarter. Abbey Hoff sunk a three-pointer in the opening minute of the second half before EKU went on an 8-0 run to cut Miami's lead to 11.
The RedHawks lead was cut to as little as 52-46 with 23 seconds to play in the third quarter before another three-pointer from Dickerson gave Miami the 55-46 advantage going into the final quarter of play.
Dickerson and Hoff sunk back-to-back three-pointers to open the fourth quarter as Miami held EKU off the board for the first three-and-a-half minutes.
Miami and EKU traded points before three-straight long-range shots from Dickerson and Kenzie Schmitz allowed the RedHawks to pull away to wrap up the game. Dickerson had eight three-pointers.
The RedHawks are on the road again on Saturday, taking on Bradley at 2 p.m. ET.
