OXFORD, Ohio - Two weeks removed from running at the Mid-American Conference Championship, the Miami University cross country team will continue the postseason gauntlet with a trip to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional on Friday.
The race will be hosted by the University of Wisconsin, with the meet held at UW's Zimmer Championship Course in Madison. The women's race will commence first, with the starting gun coming at 12:30 p.m. Eastern; the men's race will run an hour later.
Unlike most races, the men's run will use a longer 10K distance as opposed to the usual 8K. The women's section will still use a 6K distance.
The race will have 33 teams in attendance on the women's side and 30 on the men's, including several nationally-ranked teams. Wisconsin leads a strong men's field that includes other top-30 national teams such as Indiana, Michigan, Purdue and Notre Dame. The women's field has six ranked opponents for the RedHawks to square up against, led by Michigan State and the host Badgers.
Both the men's and women's RedHawk teams rank ninth in the Great Lakes Region.
Miami will also get a crack at some of the other Mid-American Conference foes the 'Hawks squared up against in DeKalb two weeks ago, as nine MAC squads will represent the conference on the women's side and eight on the men's.Â
The RedHawks took second in the men's MAC Championship their last time out, finishing just a few points behind Eastern Michigan. The Miami women finished third. David Coffey led the Miami team with a First-Team All-MAC performance, while Ryan Sharkey, Anthony Camerieri, Emma Bryant, and Claire Linn were named to the second team.
Miami is looking to improve upon last year's regional showing, which saw the RedHawks finish ninth and 11th in the men's and women's races respectively.
Live results can be found on Friday at the link above, while FloTrack will also have a live video feed of the race (requires subscription).
The top performers from the regional will earn themselves a place at the NCAA National Championship, which is scheduled for November 3 at Indiana State.
