Field Hockey
Last Week: Miami (13-7, 5-1 MAC) won its third-consecutive MAC Tournament Championship with a 2-0 shutout of Appalachian State in the semifinals and a 2-1 comeback win against Kent State in the championship. Against the Mountaineers, seniors Lexi Silver and Kenzie Peterson scored for the RedHawks while freshman goalkeeper Isabelle Perese recorded her third solo shutout (Recap). In the championship, Lexie Nugent tied the game at one to start the fourth quarter and Leonor Berlie had the game-winner on a penalty stroke with five minutes to play. Neely Lochmoeller recorded two assists on the week. Berlie was named MAC Tournament MVP and was joined by Noor Breedijk, Isabelle Perese and Lochmoeller on the All-Tournament Team (Recap). This Week: Miami earned a bid in its third-consecutive NCAA Tournament. The RedHawks travel to Stanford for the opening round on Wednesday. The winner of this game will play No. 1 North Carolina on Friday.
Volleyball
Last Week: It was a split weekend as Miami (16-9, 11-3 MAC) gained a one-match lead in the MAC regular season standings. The RedHawks avenged their early season loss to Akron with a 3-1 (25-21, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23) victory over the Zips on Friday. (Recap) Miami saw its nine-match win streak come to an end as it fell in a five-set heartbreaker, 2-3 (22-25, 25-18, 25-23, 18-25, 9-15) to Buffalo on Saturday. (Recap) This Week: Miami looks to capture its fourth straight MAC regular season crown as they play a pair of matches this week. It begins on the road as the RedHawks visit Bowling Green Thursday at 6 p.m. Miami closes the regular season at home against Western Michigan on Saturday at 6 p.m. That contest is Senior Night and the five RedHawk seniors will be honored in a pre-match ceremony.
Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (0-1) made a spirited comeback to close to within three points in the final minute of its season opener against Wright State, but it was unable to finish it off as the Raiders took an 88-81 victory Saturday afternoon. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks hit the road for the first time as they travel to Purdue Fort Wayne on Wednesday. Tip time is at 7 p.m. Miami then host Alabama A&M on Saturday at noon. That game will air on ESPN3.
Football
Last Week: Miami (5-4, 4-1) travel to Athens and beat Ohio 24-21 to take over sole possession of first place in the MAC East (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks host Bowling Green on Wednesday at 8 p.m., live on ESPNU.
Hockey
Last Week: Miami (2-5-2, 0-2 NCHC) began conference play at No. 10 North Dakota. Friday night saw the RedHawks fall into a deep hole fast as they trailed 6-0 six minutes into the second period and fell 7-1 (Recap). The RedHawks fought back from a hole in Saturday's finale, twice answering Fighting Hawk first period tallies to tie the game before falling into a 5-2 hole. Goals by Chaz Switzer and Derek Daschke brought the game within 5-4 with over seven minutes left in the third, but MU's comeback fell short in a 5-4 setback (Recap). This Week: The Red & White host two-time defending national champion Minnesota Duluth in their lone home series this month. Both games start at 7:05 p.m.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: The RedHawks' senior team flew out to Irvine, Calif. for the Synchronized Fall Classic. Miami's short program put it in front after Friday's competition (Recap) and its free skate added nearly 15 points to finish second in the final standings on Saturday (Recap). This Week: Both teams will perform exhibitions during intermission at the hockey series this weekend. The RedHawks' next competition is the Dr. Richard Porter Classic Dec. 6-8.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (0-1) began the season on the road against No. 18 DePaul in the first round of the preseason WNIT. The Blue Demons won by a 98-79 margin. Savannah Kluesner led the RedHawks' scoring with 21 points, shooting 8-of-14 from the floor. Freshman Peyton Scott recorded 15 points and seven rebounds in her first collegiate start. Kelly McLaughlin led Miami with 10 boards. Kennedy Taylor also scored in double figures with 11 points. Four returning RedHawks recorded career days (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks travel to South Alabama for the remaining two games of the preseason WNIT. Miami faces Prairie View A&M on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. ET before playing either Texas A&M - Corpus Christi or South Alabama on Friday at either 5:30 p.m. or 8 p.m. ET.
