Team to regroup before Notre Dame meet.
OXFORD, Ohio – After a competitive weekend at Iona, the Miami University men's and women's cross country teams will return home for the RedHawk Rumble Saturday. The women's 6K is scheduled for a 10:45 a.m. starting gun, with the men following at 11:45. The race will take place at the Miami University Cross Country Course at 5191 Bonham Rd. in Oxford.
The RedHawks are coming off a big weekend at the Iona Meet of Champions in New York. In a large, competitive field, the Miami women impressed with a third place team finish while the men took fifth.
"The girls did a phenomenal job," assistant coach De'Sean Turner said regarding the team's performance at Iona. "They're a bit underrated right now, so they feel like they've got something to prove and they're definitely doing that."
The RedHawk Rumble will mark the team's second home meet of the season, following the Miami Opener on Aug. 31. According to Turner, the meet will be a great chance for the team to prepare for next weekend's trip to Notre Dame, and for many runners will be an opportunity to make a statement.
"In some cases, runners are coming off injury or sickness and haven't really had an opportunity to race. They're going to throw their hat and the ring and try to prove that they belong on that trip next week."
Senior runner Ryan Sharkey added that the team's mindset is "to work hard in this race and then have a really solid performance [at Notre Dame] because it's a big meet and there's going to be a lot of really good teams."
