Smith Prepares for Stanley Cup Debut

May 24, 2018

With the Stanley Cup Finals matchup set, former Miami standout Reilly Smith preps to add his name to pro hockey and Miami history.

Smith and his fellow teammates with the Vegas Golden Knights punched their ticket to the Stanley Cup Finals after dispatching the Winnipeg Jets in five games in the Western Conference Finals, a series that culminated on Sunday. The Golden Knights begin the Stanley Cup Finals against the Washington Capitals on Monday.

Smith enjoyed a career season with 60 points in 67 games for the expansion Golden Knights. He also finished a robust +31 on the ice to help Vegas capture the Pacific Division in its inaugural season.

The postseason has been even more productive for Smith as he is second on the Golden Knights with 16 points while his 14 assists are tied for the second most among all players in the NHL Playoffs.

Before turning pro, Smith honed his craft for three incredible seasons in Oxford. The Toronto, Ontario native put up 122 points and scored 58 of his 66 career goals for Miami in his final two campaigns, earning All-America status after a 30-goal, 48-point junior season in 2011-12 and landing him firmly on the map as an NHL prospect.

Smith aims to become the fifth former Miami hockey player to etch his name on the Stanley Cup, joining Dan Boyle (2004 Tampa Bay Lightning), Kevyn Adams (2006 Carolina Hurricanes), Alec Martinez (2012 and 2014 Los Angeles Kings) and Jeff Zatkoff (2016 Pittsburgh Penguins).
