Miami Falls to NIU Despite Spears' One-Hitter

DeKALB, ILL. - The RedHawk baseball team fell to Northern Illinois, 2-1, Saturday afternoon despite a dominant performance on the mound from junior Zach Spears.
Spears went eight innings, allowing two runs on two hits. He also fanned seven Huskies.
NIU got the game's first tally, striking on a sacrifice fly in the fourth.
Miami pulled even in the top of the sixth when Adrian Texidor reached on a hit by pitch and moved to second on a groundout before being driven in on a Landon Stephens double down the left field line. The score did not hold for long as an RBI single put NIU back ahead for good, 2-1, in the bottom half of the inning.
The series comes to a close tomorrow with a 1 p.m. ET first pitch.
