OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, junior catcher Hayden Senger and senior runner Maria Scavuzzo are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of March 26-April 1.
Senger had a monster weekend for Miami as it took two out of three against Toledo at home to grab its second MAC series win in as many chances. The junior went 9-for-13 against the Rockets to post a .692 batting average on the weekend. He slugged 1.152 to go with four runs scored, four runs batted in, four doubles and one triple. His last extra base hit and RBI were the biggest as he ripped a walk-off double to left field to send Miami to a 7-6 win in the series finale on Sunday. Senger is now hitting a team-best .458 in conference play.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Spears has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Running an amazing race, Scavuzzo set the school record in the 10,000-meters with a time of 34:17.17, finishing fifth at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State.
This is the second time this season and third time in her career that Ponomareva has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of Sept. 18-24.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, April 9.
