Last Week: Miami (12-20-5) battled top-ranked St. Cloud State in a three-game NCHC Playoff series over the weekend. Friday saw the RedHawks fall behind 3-1 after 40 minutes, but a Gordie Green goal early in the third pulled them to within a goal. SCSU tallied a late insurance goal and an empty netter, however, to take game one by a 5-2 count (Recap). Playing to extend their season on Saturday, the RedHawks raced out to a 2-0 lead on first period goals from Josh Melnick and Grant Hutton before the Huskies used a pair of power play goals to leave the score tied at 2-2 early in the third. Overtime was required to decide that one and Hutton buried his second of the night 7:10 into the extra session to force a winner-take-all game three (Recap). Sunday saw Miami jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period again on goals by Hutton and Casey Gilling. After the Huskies netted a power play goal, Karch Bachman made it 3-1 in the second, but SCSU came back to force overtime, where it prevailed and ended MU's season (Recap).
