
RedHawks Continue to Swim Career Bests

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University men's swimming and diving team is currently in third place with 264 points after two days of competition at the 2018 MAC Championships. Over the first two days of competition, the RedHawks have 23 season-best swims and 20 lifetime-best swims.
The men competed in the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-mtr dive and the 200 free relay. The 200 IM time is a new school record.
Gordon Wheeler finished second overall (4:25.61) in the 500 free. James McGuire touched the wall in sixth (4:29.27), with Iago Moussalem (4:28.84) and Austin Theobald (4:28.96) rounding out the top ten.
Kayky Mota swam the fastest RedHawks time in the 200 IM (1:47.54), finishing sixth. Justin Andrews finished eighth (1:47.71), with Ross Rybakowicz (1:49.18) and Noah Barr (1:50.58) finishing 10th and 15th, respectively.
Nick Ward touched the wall sixth in the 50 free (20.37). Thomas Blackstone (Hutch) finished eighth (20.51), with Ross Westrick (10th, 20.59), Diego Gonzalez Valentim (11th, 20.68) and James Wray (15th, 21.05) also earning points for Miami.
Harrison Moncino, Ryan Nash and Sam Wiedemann all qualified for the finals in the 1-mtr dive. Moncino scored 319.45 to earn third place overall. Wiedemann finished sixth (295.55) and Nash finished seventh (289.00).
Valentim, Blackstone, Westrick and Ward made up the second-place team in the 200 free relay (1:20.43). On Friday, the men will compete in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, 400 medley relay and the consolation round of the 3-mtr dive.
