
RedHawks Make Big Splash on Senior Day

OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University swimming and diving team earned a decisive victory against Xavier on both the men's and women's sides. The men beat Xavier 206-55 and the women won by a 184-75 margin.
The Miami men finished first in all 14 events on the day, claiming at least the top two spots in 13 of those.
In the 100 fly and the 400 IM, the men achieved the top four times in both events. Iago Moussalem won the 100 fly (50.06) with Peter Simcox, Chase Bettner and Spencer Klinsky finishing in second, third and fourth place, respectively. James McGuire captured the fastest finish in the 400 IM (4:08.99) with Ross Rybakowicz, Jacob Halem and Wesley Fales rounding out the top-four times.
The men placed one-two-three in the 100 breast, 50 free and 100 free. Thomas Blackstone (Hutch) was the fastest in the 100 breast (57.64) with Noah Barr and Blake Brockman finishing second and third. Nicholas Ward (Nick) won the 50 free (21.22) with Diego GonzÃÆ'Æ'¡lez Valentim and Ross Westrick finishing right behind Ward. The same three placed top-three in the 100 free with Valentim getting the win (45.94) and Ward and Westrick earning second and third, respectively.
In the 400 medley relay, James Wray, Blackstone, Moussalem and Ward finished fastest (3:24.10) with Jake Precious, Barr, Bettner and Westrick right behind. Austin Theobald won the 1000 free (9:42.97) and 500 free (4:43.91) with Gordon Wheeler coming in second in both of these events. Moussalem and Valentim finished first and second, respectively, in the 200 free. Justin Andrews picked up a win in the 100 back (51.81) and Precious was runner-up. Klinsky won the 200 fly (1:53.20) and Rybakowicz finished second. Andrews was the quickest swimmer in the 200 back (1:52.11). Harrison Paul picked up a second-place finish in this event. Blake Brockman edged out Blackstone for the victory in the 200 breast. Rounding out the men's victories was the senior team for the 200 free relay, made up of Blackstone, Westrick, Simcox and Rybakowicz.
The Miami women claimed victories in 12 events, earning at least the top two spots in seven of those events.
The women dominated the breaststroke and 400 IM, finishing in the top four places for all three events. Holly Schuster had the fastest time in the 100 breast (1:04.67), with Macey Neubauer, Hannah Fuchs and Anna Justinak rounding out the top four. In the 200 breast, Elise Campbell claimed victory (2:22.24) with Brianna Alexander (Bri), Neubauer and Ana Maria Castellanos finishing second, third and fourth, respectively. Schuster also won the 400 IM (4:27.04) with Fuchs coming in second, Carolyn Jungers coming in third and Shay Spelman coming in fourth.
The women finished in the top three places in the 200 back and the 500 free. Izzy Herb was the fastest in the 200 back (2:04.29) with Abby Stone and Fuchs finishing right behind her. Emma Bradley finished first in the 500 free (5:00.48) with Molly Zilch and Claire Doerr rounding out the top three.
The Miami women had the top two teams in the 400 medley relay. Herb, Schuster, Peyton Mosbaugh and Campbell won (3:50.91) with Jungers, Neubauer, Kayleigh Cannon and Zilch finishing as the second team. Ella Moynihan won the 1000 free (10:08.07) with Spelman earning the runner-up finish. Moynihan also won the 100 free (51.96). Zilch won the 200 free (1:52.80). Cannon was the fastest in the 200 fly (2:03.40). Mosbaugh earned the victory in the 100 fly (56.01).
The divers competed in an intrasquad meet. Harrison Moncino won both the 1-mtr (289.95) and 3-mtr (329.10) for the men. Pei Lin scored highest in both the 1-mtr (253.72) and the 3-mtr (332.70) for the women.
The Miami men travel to Ball State on Saturday, February 10 for a 1:00 p.m. meet. The Miami women travel to the Ohio State Invitational on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11.
