Men's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (15-14 overall, 8-8 MAC) had its biggest week of the season with a pair of dramatic victories. Battling back from an early deficit, the RedHawks used a tremendous all-around effort to pull away from Mid-American Conference leading Buffalo late and secure an 84-81 victory. (Recap) Trailing by as many as 17 points, Miami rebounded from significant first half shooting woes to come from behind to defeat Akron, 64-62, in overtime. (Recap) This Week: It's the final week of the regular season for the RedHawks. On Tuesday, Miami travels to Kent State for a 7 p.m. tip. It will then end the regular season on Friday as it hosts Ohio for the "Battle of the Bricks" at 7 p.m. Following the contest against the Bobcats, Logan McLane and Rod Mills Jr. will be honored in a postgame "Senior Night" ceremony. Both contests will air live on ESPN3.
Hockey
Last Week: The RedHawks (11-17-4, 6-13-3-1 NCHC) wrapped up their home slate for the season against No. 12 North Dakota. Looking to snap a five-game losing skid on Friday, the RedHawks fell into a 3-0 hole midway through the second period before Alec Mahalak's first career goal snapped a 240:24 scoreless drought and got MU on the board. Phil Knies and Gordie Green scored 2:18 apart to tie the score at 3-3 four minutes into the third before Ben Lown capped the comeback with a goal 59 seconds into overtime (Recap). Eying a sweep on Senior Night, Josh Melnick netted a shorthanded goal in the second period and Kiefer Sherwood put Miami on top 2-0 26 seconds into the third, but the Fighting Hawks fought back to tie it up and eventually forced a 2-2 tie. Sherwood scored again during the 3-on-3 overtime session to give Miami five of six points on the weekend (Recap). This Week: Miami finishes its regular season with a trip to Denver. Friday's series opener is televised nationally on CBS Sports Network and starts at 10 p.m. ET.
Women's Basketball
Last Week: Miami (18-9, 10-6 MAC) stayed red hot with two more wins this past week. The `Hawks began the week at Akron, where they cruised to a 27-point win in a 77-50 decision over the Zips. Six players scored in double figures for MU, led by Kayla Brown's 14 points. Kendall McCoy poured in 13, Lauren Dickerson scored 12, Savannah Kluesner and Baleigh Reid contributed 11 and Leah Purvis collected 10 (Recap). On Saturday, Miami dominated Bowling Green, 92-64, behind season-high scoring output. Kendall McCoy led the way with a career-high 25 points, 13 of which came in the first quarter of play. Three other `Hawks also hit double digits - Lauren Dickerson (17), Leah Purvis (17), and Savannah Kluesner (10). The team shot 54.2 percent from the field and 61.9 percent from three (Recap). This Week: The Red & White close the regular season with a pair of games this week, starting on the road at Ohio on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The regular season comes to a close on Saturday at 1 p.m. as Miami hosts Kent State for Senior Day. Both games will air live on ESPN3.
Baseball
Last Week: Miami (5-3) went 3-1 at the Campbell Invitational in Buies Creek, N.C. this past weekend. The RedHawks opened the four-game slate with a tough extra-inning, walk-off loss to Western Michigan, 4-2, after surrendering a late lead (Recap). MU rallied to earn a doubleheader sweep over Yale on Saturday, winning game one 4-3 in 16 innings on a Hayden Senger walk-off single before topping the Bulldogs in game two, 2-1, in a shortened seven-inning contest (Recap). The Red & White went to extra innings for the third time on the weekend when it faced host Campbell Sunday. Miami held a 6-2 lead before a four-run Fighting Camel eighth inning knotted the score at six apiece. The RedHawks would be the only team to break through in extras, pushing across two runs in the top of the 11th to claim a 8-6 win (Recap). This Week: Miami opens its home slate this weekend as it hosts Rider, beginning on Friday with a 5 p.m. first pitch. Saturday's contest gets underway at 4 p.m. and Sunday's finale begins at 1 p.m.
Synchronized Skating
Last Week: Miami flew out to Portland, Oregon for the US Synchronized Skating Championships. The senior team debuted on Friday night and posted its top short program of the year to sit in third place following the first day of competition (Recap). Saturday again saw across the board season bests as the collegiate team and senior team recorded their top free skates of the year, ultimately finishing third in both competitions (Recap). This Week: Miami's competition slate is over for the 2017-18 academic year.
Golf
Last Week: The RedHawks were idle this week. This Week: Miami returns to action this weekend when it travels to Scottsdale, Arizona for the Desert Mountain Intercollegiate. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Saturday and one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
Track & Field
Last Week: The women's squad finished their indoor season with a 10th-place finish at the Mid-American Conference Championships. They finished with 33 total points on the weekend. Senior Maria Scavuzzo earned nine of those points herself by finishing third in the 5000m (16:37.69) and sixth in the 3000m (9:44.35). Sophomore Olivia Bechtel contributed to 12 of Miami's points by placing third in the 400m and helping the 4x4 team place third as well (Recap). Next Week: With the regular season over, the `Hawks will await any potential bids to the Mar. 9-10 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Tennis
Last Week: The Miami University women's tennis team went 1-1 over their weekend trip to Tennessee, dropping their first match to East Tennessee State 6-1 on Friday before taking down Western Kentucky 4-1 on Saturday. The `Hawks are now sitting at 5-6 on the season (Recap). Next Week: Miami is back in action next Saturday, March 3, when they visit the Indiana Hoosiers in its non-conference finale. Mid-American Conference play will begin March 23, when the `Hawks take on Ball State in Muncie.
Swimming and Diving
Last Week: The women's swimming and diving team finished fourth at the MAC Championships, earning 516 points. Pei Lin received the MAC award for the Most Outstanding Senior Swimmer/Diver of the Year. Lin was also named MAC Co-Diver of the Year. Lin and Ella Moynihan were named All-MAC First Team. Four athletes were named All-MAC Second Team (Recaps). Next Week: Miami hosts the men's MAC Championships from Wednesday, February 28 through Saturday, March 4.
Softball
Last Week: The RedHawks went 3-2 at the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic. On Friday, Miami lost to Harvard 11-8 and beat the Czech National Team in extra innings in an exhibition match (Recap ). On Saturday, the RedHawks were shut out by South Carolina and then run-ruled Morgan State 9-1 (Recap ). Miami finished the weekend with a 6-5 win against Lehigh in the bottom of the seventh (Recap ). Next Week: The RedHawks travel to Louisville for a tournament on Saturday, March 3 and Sunday, March 4.
