OXFORD, Ohio ÃÆ'Æ'¢ÃÆ'¢'¬" For their performances last week, junior pitcher Nick Ernst and junior tennis player Emily Struble are Miami Athletes of the Week for the week of Feb. 12-18.
Ernst set the tone for Miami's four-game series at Arizona State by tossing six innings of one-run ball in the opener. The Cincinnati, Ohio native allowed just four hits, walked none and recorded six strikeouts to help Miami to a 4-2 victory. The RedHawks wound up splitting the series against a good Sun Devils team.
This is the first time this season and in his career that Ernst has been named Miami's Male Athlete of the Week.
Struble went 3-0 over the weekend, helping the RedHawks go 2-0 with wins over Marshall and Murray State. She went 2-0 at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 6-4 win versus Marshall and a 6-0 victory against Murray State before the opponent withdrew. She also went 1-0 in doubles play with a 6-2 victory.
This is the first time this season and second time in her career that Struble has been named Miami's Female Athlete of the Week. She last won it for the week of April 18-24, 2016.
The next Miami Athletes of the Week will be announced on Monday, Feb. 26.
