COLUMBUS, Ohio - Miami University track & field finished up their one-day meet at Ohio State on Friday. The `Hawks, competing in the Buckeye Tune-Up, compiled five top-three finishes.
Two of those top-five finishes came in the high jump - an encouraging result for a developing women's field squad. Junior Molly Balcer and freshman Elise Walker both cleared 5-4.25 to tie for first with Ohio State's Brooke Mangas. However, since she cleared on her first try while Balcer and Walker needed two and three tries, respectively, she won the event. Balcer settled into second while Walker placed third.
Miami takes two of the top three slots in the women's high jump!

Other jumpers showed out in the long jump. Sophomore Hannah Falcione placed third with a 17-8. Behind her came fellow sophomore Cailyn Etgen with a 16-11.25 that rounded out the top-five places. Falcione also went in the triple jump and finished fourth with a 36-7.5. The men's long jumpers flexed their muscles, too, as Kenny Glenn finished second with a 23-2.75.
The lone Miami top-three finish not belonging to a field competitor belonged to the men's 4x400 group. Leading off the race was sophomore Ivan Dye, who took fourth in the 400m earlier in the evening. He was followed by junior Aaron Muresan, freshman Peter Cooke, and junior Joe Komlanc. They turned in a 3:26.67 to place third.
While the women's field athletes racked up top finishes, the runners turned in solid times. Rachel Kotchman turned in a 2:17.15 in the 800m to place sixth. She was followed by Christina Nash, who PR'd and finished ninth with a 2:22.54. In the 3000m, Maegan Murphy won her heat and set a personal best with a 10:09.35. She took eight overall.
While this group of `Hawks heads home from Columbus on Friday, Miami has another group rearing to go Saturday morning at Notre Dame's Alex Wilson Invitational. Events will begin at 11 a.m. and live results can be accessed here. A full recap will be available after the meet.
